ing. Chris snapped his lock to the right, but it was a long time before he moved away from the door.

D.J. marched down the service drive, long angry strides eating up the distance between the hotel and the nearest fast-food restaurant.
She had never been so embarrassed in her life. When McCall had kissed her she'd lost all sense of herself. Of who and what she was, what she wanted, what she believed. She'd only wanted him to keep kissing herto keep kissing her and more. Then he'd pulled away, leaving her perched on a mountain of need she didn't understand. His face had revealed shock, confusion, and something elsea touch of panic D.J. understood very well. She understood McCall's panic because she experienced the self-same emotion whenever she examined too closely the things he made her feel.
D.J. stopped in front of the golden arches and stared at the garish characters that composed the slides and swings of an outdoor playland. Children tumbled and shrieked while their parents ate and watched. The bright primary colors of the children's jackets merged and blended with the colors of the playland as D.J. pondered the mystery of Christian McCall.
Something was very wrong with that man. In her world when a woman kissed a man like she'd kissed him, they ended up in bed. Although such an action would have been a mistake of epic proportions, at the time she would have fallen into bed with McCall gladly.
"What's his problem?" she muttered.
